We’re very proud of our track record in mezzanine floors. UK-wide, our clients tell us how pleased they are with the end result and what a difference their mezzanine floor has made to their business.
But don’t take our word for it. Here are just a few of our ongoing success stories.
MFL Ltd were delighted to be asked by Iqra Primary School to offer a solution to their need for more space and teaching areas. The work was to be carried out during the summer closure.
Our challenge was as follows :
Design and supply a mezzanine to fit into the roof space above 3 existing classrooms.
Design and supply all Partitioning, Suspended Ceilings, Doors and Furniture, Floor Coverings and Windows into the new area.
Design and supply a dual purpose Heating ,Cooling / Ventilation system to provide a comfortable environment above the new Mezzanine Floor.
Re-route the existing Sprinkler system and extend to serve the first floor.
Supply and install all new Lighting, Smoke Detection, 240 v Wall Sockets, Data and Emergency Lighting.
Carry out Building works to create new doorways to serve the first floor.
Carry out Plumbing works which included the installation of a new Kitchen area.
Our first job was to strip out the existing ceilings, lighting and floor coverings to the ground floor areas above which the new Mezzanine was to be installed.
Once this had been carried out we created holes in the adjoining breeze block walls to allow pad stones to be installed to bear the weight of the steel beams. We needed to install the beams in this way as the existing school floor was made up from timber joists which were over boarded, and would therefore not have taken the weight of a column and beam in the conventional way.
When the beams and joists had been installed and decked we were able to start work on the new first floor. A new ventilation system was installed along with a heating and cooling system. Stud walls were erected ready for the new partitioning which would form the new teaching areas and kitchen.
First fix electrical cables were installed at this point to enable us to finish the partition walls and install the grid for the new suspended ceiling. Inset lighting was connected into the ceiling grid and the walls were decorated. New floor coverings were laid in the teaching areas and non slip safety flooring into the kitchen.
The ground floor classrooms were then decorated and fitted with new ceilings, lighting and window blinds ready for re-instatement of the furniture.
On completion we brought in contract cleaners to fully clean all areas affected by the work.
We liaised regularly with the local authority during this project and on completion Building Regulation approval was given for all the works carried out.
Mezzanine Floors were the project managers and main contractor during these works. This meant that despite the enormity of the task and the tight timeframe (5 weeks) all works were completed on time.
Mezzanine Floors (Leeds) Limited were contacted by our client to design, supply and install a Floor 17.500m x 18.900m into one of their warehouses in South Shields.
Over the years MFL and the client have built up a terrific working relationship, and we have supplied numerous Mezzanines to help increase their space and working area.
Our re-mitt was as follows :
Design, supply and install a 330msq storage Mezzanine complete with 2no. up & over pallet gates and 2 Part K staircases with mid landings.
Install lighting mounted on track to both the underside and Mezzanine level.
Supply and install column protectors to steel columns.
Following drawing approval the Mezzanine was delivered to site and installed in just 5 days. This included the staircases and pallet gates.
Hand / Knee rail was installed to all four sides as the Mezzanine Floor was totally free standing, and at the clients request we designed and supplied mesh infill panels which were integrated into the handrail.
Following completion of the Floor our electricians started work on the lighting. We installed a metal track to both the underside and upper levels and mounted 5ft fluorescent twin tubes to light up the area. Smoke detection was also installed to the underside and the capacity was increased in the existing DB to allow for the increased loadings.
Column protectors were installed around the steel columns to prevent damage from pallet trucks etc, operating beneath the Mezzanine Floor. These were finished in bright yellow to contrast the steel.
The above work was carried out whilst the client carried on with the day to day running of their business and caused little or no disruption to either staff or operational activities.
On behalf of the client we also made an application for Building Regulation Approval which was granted following the required site visit.
Mezzanine Floors (Leeds) Limited were contacted by the above client in November 2011 to design and supply a Mezzanine Floor to house 3 training Rooms at the companies new location in Castleford, West Yorkshire.
Our Challenge was as follows :
After producing detailed drawings showing our proposal a follow up meeting was held on site with the client.
Following these discussions we were delighted to be awarded the project and work commenced in early December 2011.
Following delivery to site the Mezzanine Floor was installed in under 4 days to allow follow on trades to start earlier than anticipated.
Over and above the agreed work the client also asked us to carry out some building work, these included Breeze Block walls to form individual areas within the warehouse itself.
As soon as the Mezzanine was erected work began on the Training Rooms. The new walls were formed from metal stud frames which were insulated with 100 mm acoustic insulation and over boarded with fire resistant plaster board. Windows and doors were installed into each room along with a 1 hour rated Suspended Ceiling, Inset Lighting, Data and new radiators.
We installed an MF ceiling to the underside of the Mezzanine which was taped and joined to provide a smooth finish ready for decorating. White Column casings were also supplied and fixed to the steel columns to provide a 1 hour fire protection to the above rooms.
To the underside of the Mezzanine we installed a new Canteen area 10.000m x 4.000m including tables, kitchen and a breakfast bar.
The new areas were then decorated in a silk emulsion finish and all doors and windows were finished in white gloss.

Mezzanine Floors acted as the principal contractor, project managing all trades including : Plumbing, Plasterers, Decorators, Builders etc. This culminated in the delivery of a complex project ahead of schedule and on budget.
